EENHANA – Windhoek and Walvis Bay are set to go ablaze again this weekend when the popular South African Mbaqanga, Afro Pop and Disco female legend, Patricia Majalisa, starts with her series of shows extravaganzas which have been billed for the cattle town of Gobabis, Windhoek and Walvis Bay.
This year’s shows, being promoted by renowned Namibian producer and promoter, George Simataa, is expected to attract a huge fan base of Gobabis town revellers who have been starved of international and regional musicians coming to perform in the cattle town. According to Simataa, the Gobabis show started at 18hr00 at Epako Community Hall on Wednesday, while the show in Walbis Bay has been billed for tonight in the Kuisebmund Community Hall and the one Windhoek show at Independence Arena tomorrow at 19 hr00.
He explains to Art Life that Patricia will obviously perform according to her schedule and promises her Namibian fans some nights to remember. “As Patricia Majalisa and her Dalom Kids who were all mentored by the legend Dan Tshanda, they are ready to rock Namibia as per promise and as usual. Our first show was packed to capacity on the 23rd at Katima Mulilo’s Ngweze Hall and 24th Rundu respectively. So we are expecting the same fireworks on stage on Friday in Windhoek and Sunday at Walvis Bay,” he explains
Patricia’s songs that have mesmerised many Namibian fans, especially the Otjiherero revelers, includes her Dalom Kids Nomathemba and Uwee Uwee (Umqophoqopho) which has been received well by many of her legions of fans in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and beyond. Under the leadership and mentorship of Dan Tshanda, Patricia has released songs from albums like Umona, which have rocked many radio stations in the SADC region. Some of her songs from other albums are receiving reviews and requests from the Otjiherero’s radio language service listeners since the 1990s.
Together with Dalom Kids’ her unique brand of sound has secured a stable cult following. Their hits have been the anthems of shebeens at Ovaherero Mall in Windhoek, apart from other countries in the SADC region from the 1990s to this day. She has been accompanied by other groups under the Splash stable, which are Dalom Kids, Matshikos, CJB lead by John Mataka, Silindile, and the infamous Chimora Sisters, who are expected to send some fans into a frenzy with hits like, Eli Eliand Mayibuye iAfrica,among other hits. “We have also lined up other upcoming artists from the Dalom Kids stable who are the Old Peacock and the New Peacock. Our local Namibian artists such as Linda and Thokoloshi will also share the stage with Patricia in all the venues,” promises Simataa
Meanwhile, the South African disco and mbaqanga songbird left the Dan Tshanda music record, Dalom Kids Records, last year and has established her own, Majalisa Records with the assistance of his mentor Tshanda. Tshanda still uses and owns copyright name, the Dalom Kids Records.
Patricia’s latest albums, Akulalwa and Emapatini, which are selling like hot cakes in the SADC region, were recorded at Majalisa Records while Tshanda was the producer of the albums, which have followed with videos from both albums.
Patricia thanks Tshanda for mentoring her and helping her establish her own music stable, Majalisa Records. Some of the albums from the Splash and the Dalom Kids have gone golden and platinum. UnderTshanda, she has recorded six albums, Umona, Ithemba Lami, My music, Witch Doctor- Dzhengenzhe, Batsha and now the latest Akulalwa and Emapatini in 2012, which she recorded at her Majalisa Records while produced byTshanda as well. Damage for all venues is N $ 100 and there will be tight security as usual.
