The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) donated sanitary pads to the value of N$2 000 to the girls of the Karundu Secondary School in Otjiwarongo.

The aim of the donation is to empower girls to continue attending school.

It is reported some girls fail to attend school during their menstrual period if they do not have sanitary pads.

The donation of sanitary pads followed an earlier action, where the party donated food parcels to the Otjiwarongo Multi-Purpose Helping Hand Centre at the beginning of this year during the local authority councillors’ training of the party in Otjiwarongo.

The initiative was triggered by discussions on girls’ rights at the just-ended party policy conference and election review last week, sponsored by Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung.

PDM vice president Jennifer van den Heever urged the girls to be focused and to abstain from sexual relations to avoid unplanned teenage pregnancy.

Upon receiving the donation, Natasha Hoebes, a representative of the Otjozondjupa Education Regional Office, thanked the Party for empowering the girls’ rights in the region.
