A 70-year-old grandmother from Shamangorwa village in Mukwe Constituency reportedly took her own life over the past weekend by setting herself on fire in a hut.

Kavango East police in Mukwe District, who responded to the incident, identified the deceased woman as Shambunda Kapinda, a resident of Shamangorwa.

“It’s alleged the victim burned herself in her hut. No suicide message was left behind, but according to the daughter [of the deceased] her mother suffered from mental illness,” Chief Detective Inspector Chrispin Mubebo, the acting regional crime investigations coordinator of the police in Kavango East Region, revealed.
He said the incident is being investigated.
