Winning Player of the Year 2022 and Defender of the Year in both 2021 and 2022 in South Africa.

How did you first discover and develop your passion for netball, leading you to pursue it as a professional career?

Making the under-12 national team was a pivotal moment that sparked my passion for netball. Representing my country at a young age ignited a desire to excel in the sport. From that point on, I dedicated myself to training, perfecting my skills and pursuing netball as a professional career. The experience of playing at a national level fuelled my love for the game and inspired me to continue on this path.

Two weeks ago, you won back-to-back player of the match! How do you feel about this recognition, and what does it mean to you personally?

Thank you for the congratulations! Being recognised as the player of the match is an incredible honour and it brings me immense joy. It is a validation of the hard work, dedication and passion I have poured into my netball journey.

How does this achievement inspire you to improve your netball career?

Personally, this recognition holds great significance for me. It reaffirms that my efforts on the court have not gone unnoticed and motivates me to continue pushing myself to reach even greater heights. It boosts my confidence and reinforces my belief in my abilities as a player. Being named the player of the match also serves as a reminder of the collective effort and support from my teammates and coaches. Netball is a team sport, and this recognition reflects the combined efforts of everyone involved in our pursuit of success. It inspires gratitude and a deep appreciation for the individuals who have contributed to my development and performance.

As a player who has experienced both the Namibian and South African netball leagues, can you describe the differences in challenges between the two? How has this transition influenced your game and personal growth?

Transitioning from the Namibian to the South African netball league presented different challenges that have greatly influenced both my game and personal growth. In terms of the challenges, the South African netball league is known for its highly competitive nature, featuring teams with exceptional talent and skill. The level of intensity and the pace of the game is elevated, demanding quick decision-making, agility and adaptability on the court. The increased competition pushes me to constantly improve my skills, tactical understanding and physical fitness to stay competitive. Moreover, the South African league offers exposure to a wider range of playing styles and strategies, as teams from diverse backgrounds and regions compete against each other. This exposure has broadened my understanding of the game and allowed me to develop more versatile approaches to different situations.

It has challenged me to adapt and adjust my gameplay to effectively counter different opponents’ strengths and exploit their weaknesses. On a personal level, the transition between leagues has been a significant growth opportunity. It has required me to step out of my comfort zone, embrace new experiences and enhance my mental resilience. The higher level of competition has taught me to handle pressure situations with composure, maintain focus and continually strive for improvement. It has also exposed me to a broader netball community, enabling me to build connections, learn from experienced players and coaches, and gain valuable insights into the sport.

Reflecting on your netball career thus far, are there any significant challenges you have faced?

Yes; being too hard on myself.

How have you managed to overcome them, and what lessons have you learned along the way?

Just to enjoy the ride. Always enjoy. I do not have to rush the process.

How important is it to play for the Namibian Desert Jewels team?

Tell us about your experiences representing your country and the pride you feel wearing the national team jersey. As an athlete and a member of the Namibian Desert Jewels team, representing my country is an incredible honour that fills me with immense pride. Putting on the national team jersey is a symbolic moment that signifies not only my achievement but also the responsibility I have to perform at my best and make my country proud.

What are your aspirations or plans to give back to the community or contribute to the development of netball in Namibia?

As I progress in my netball career, giving back to the community and contributing to the development of netball in Namibia is an important aspiration for me. I envision organising clinics and workshops for aspiring netball players to share my knowledge and experiences to help them develop their skills and passion for the sport. Additionally, I aim to be actively involved in community initiatives that promote inclusivity, empower women and create opportunities for young girls to participate in sports. By making a positive impact on the lives of others, I hope to contribute to the growth and success of netball in Namibia and inspire the next generation of athletes.
