EENHANA – Petrus Haufiku, a Grade 10 learner has been awarded as the most outstanding and best learner of all Grade 10 learners having scored 40 points.
Haufiku who is a prefect at the Oshikunde Combined School also received the best prize for scoring high in Mathematics and for being the best disciplined teacher at the school. Lucia Matthew has been judged the best overall learner in the upper primary school in the region and received the certificates and trophies at the occasion.Julia Sheuyange received a certificate for being the best candidate in the lower primary school.She received a certificate, a bag and calculator. Martha Petrus was also awarded as the best candidate in lower primary category.
Matheus Ndeumane, a Mathematics teacher, Julia Amunyela (Life Science) and Josephine Haikali for Physical Science also received awards for their best performance and quality work in their respective subjects while the trophy for the best manager went to the school principal, Hoster Simasiku. Deputy Director of Education in the Ohangwena Region, Isaak Hamatwi, encouraged learners to be disciplined and obedient to succeed in their studies. “As you are receiving your awards today, already you can see that you have a bright future if you continue to work hard. Oshikunde Combined School is ranked number eleven in the region and 155 in the 2013 national ranking. The school awarded certificates of achievement in different categories from pre-primary to Grade 10.Some employees and other members of the community were also awarded including the non-academic awards such as soccer, netball, athletics, culture, feeding programmes and management award.
Also in attendance at the annual award ceremony was the Deputy Director for Administration in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Likius Valombola who gave a motivational speech and praised the learners and teachers for a job well done.
“Education is not easy as you can imagine. You must work hard for the betterment of your life. You must guard yourself against the scourge of the HIV and AIDS pandemic, which has become our one number enemy in our societies. As the future generation who are the leaders of tomorrow, we encourage you to read more and more,” he said. Valombola also made use of the occasion to advise learners especially females not to go for early parenthood as this causes most female learners to drop out of school. Parents and guardians, traditional and church leaders from the Oshikunde Constituency which falls under Ohakafiya Circuit also attended the ceremony.
