The prosecutor general (PG) Martha Imalwa will decide where, if and on what charges the driver of a vehicle that crashed into three people in Sam Nujoma Drive, Hochland Park, in July last year, will be tried.
This was revealed in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday when Morne Mouton, 20, who has in the meantime acquired the services of legal eagle Sisa Namandje, was informed that investigations into his case were finalised and the docket was sent to the PG for her decision.
He currently faces a charge of culpable homicide and one of driving with an excessive blood alcohol level, alternatively reckless or negligent driving.
He is currently free on bail of N$6 000, granted shortly after his arrest on July 4.
According to information Mouton crashed into a stationary City Police vehicle at high speed, killing three people standing on the pavement.
Among the deceased were City Police officials Manfred Goaseb and Werner Simon, 22.
The third person killed was Joshua Ngenokesho, a teacher, according to media reports.
It is alleged that Goaseb and Simon were en-route to a reported housebreaking in Hochland Park, but stopped at Sam Nujoma Drive after noticing suspicious activity in a nearby riverbed.
They allegedly searched a man at the scene and found three cellphones and a knife in his possession, after which they called for assistance from another member of the police.
It was during this period that an allegedly intoxicated Mouton approached at high speed from an easterly direction and rammed into the stationary police vehicle, causing the immediate demise of the three deceased.
Mouton was arrested at the scene.
The case was postponed to November 24 for the PG’s decision.
