Plastic Packaging golf team scooped top honours at this year’s Frank Fredericks Foundation (FFF) Fundraising Golf Day on Friday at the Windhoek Golf and Country Club.
The event saw 14 corporate and social teams entering the prestigious event, which aimed to raise much-needed education and sports scholarships for young, talented Namibian athletes. Omake Golf Team, the only mixed team, walked away as the proud runners-up, while Saunderson & Co were placed third overall.
Young Namibian golfer and FFF scholarship recipient Gabriel Shikodi, who went on to win the Windhoek Golf Open the following day, competed in the FFF All Stars team together with Frank Fredericks, Amos Shiyuka and junior golfer Justice Amutenya. The longest drive was won by Conrad Wessels (Bank Windhoek), whilst the nearest to the pin was won by Owen Olivier (Canyon Fishing).
The prize-giving function in the evening was graced by Welwitschia rugby team’s Rohan Kitshoff, Tinus du Plessis and Wessel Kotzè, as guests of honour. The trio, who were well received, gave memorable accounts of their recently concluded Rugby World Cup tour.
Handing over a rugby jersey to FFF’s chairperson, Welwitschia team manager Kotzè noted that: “The jersey of Namibia’s game against Argentina can be used by the Foundation to further aid its fundraising drive.” At the same time Fredericks used the opportunity to award the Welwitschias a commemorative plate in honour of their World Cup accomplishments.
Furntech Agencies, in conjunction with Samsung, served as anchor sponsor of the event while Alexander Forbes was the main supporting sponsor with a sponsorship value of N$45 000. MMI Holdings further supported the event with a sponsorship of N$23 000, while official soft drink sponsor Coca Cola Namibia Bottling Co. supported the event with N$15 000 in cash and a further N$5 000 in kind.
Bank Windhoek this year sponsored the nearest-to-pin prize of N$5 000, whilst Top Ten in-kind prizes were sponsored by Cymot, Mizuno, Namibia Breweries Limited and Primi Piatti. “We are proud to have such valuable partners, who not only believe in the vision of FFF, but who have assisted in making a lasting and positive difference in Namibian sports through this initiative” said Frank Fredericks, chairperson of FFF.
