WINDHOEK – With only five points separating them from MTC Premier League log leaders Black Africa, Tigers go into this weekend’s clash against PC Blue Boys as firm favourites and should have little trouble dispatching the coastal outfit in their backyard, if the Shandumbala boys are to seriously get their league title race back on track.
Tigers will tomorrow confront struggling Blue Boys at the Vineta Sports Stadium in Swakopmund, in a clash that promises plenty of fireworks and could go a long way in defining the league title aspirations of Tigers.
Tigers are currently sitting 2nd on the log with 34 points and are expected to record a victory in tomorrow’s match with the hope of keeping Black Africa within touching distance, but that’s if their recent near faultless form of late is anything to go by.
As for Blue Boys, the sea-siders also desperately need to bag those vital three points against Tigers in their quest of keeping the hovering relegation axe at bay for the time being. The minors are currently sitting 3rd from bottom on the log with only 15 points from 17 league games thus far, which puts them 5 points clear of fellow coastal outfit Eleven Arrows who are sitting rock bottom with a paltry 10 points.
Although Tigers already confirmed their title ambitions since the beginning of the season, coach Bobby Samaria and his trusted militia are very much aware that defeat against Blue Boys could all but defuse their title aspirations.
On the other hand, Blue Boys will also go into tomorrow’s clash knowing very well a victory will boost their chances of finishing the current term mid-table and also provide a much needed impetus to their poor form.
Also in tomorrow’s action, Tura Magic are at the Sam Nujoma Stadium where they entertain relegation threatened Eleven Arrows, in a match that could also go a long way in deciding Arrows’ survival in top flight football.
Meanwhile, Rundu Chiefs square off against an in-form Civics at the Rundu Sports Stadium, while LHU Blue Waters will be at home at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay with a crucial tie against United Stars with Black Africa taking on Orlando Pirates tonight at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
In midweek action, African Stars gave their league title race a new lease of hope when they trounced Ramblers 2-0 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Wednesday. The pair of Ferdinand Karongee and Edwin Korukuve were on target for the Katutura giants.
