Plot to Plate offers open-access video to boost food security

Plot to Plate, an initiative of the Capricorn Foundation, has introduced a free, open-access video course, designed to empower Namibians with the knowledge and practical skills to grow their own food, improve community and household resilience, and contribute to national food security. The course explores the fundamentals of permaculture practices, which is a holistic approach to food growing and gardening that works with nature to create sustainable, productive systems.

Plot to Plate is an educational initiative that empowers Namibians through practical, sustainable solutions for food production. By combining local knowledge with permaculture principles, Plot to Plate aims to strengthen food security and environmental awareness across Namibia.

Meanwhile, designed as an accessible, entry-level course, the free videos offer just enough practical knowledge to spark interest and get participants started on their own food-growing journey. Through a series of 14 engaging video lessons, practical information, and interactive quizzes, participants will learn how to design and maintain thriving gardens, conserve water, improve soil health, and grow nutritious food across Namibia’s diverse climates, whether in urban backyards, rural homesteads, or community gardens.

“Food security is one of the most pressing challenges in Namibia, and by equipping people with the tools and knowledge to produce food sustainably, Plot to Plate is helping communities become more self-reliant, reduce waste, and protect natural resources for future generations”, commented Marlize Horn, Executive Officer of the Capricorn Foundation, on the launch of the online platform.

The course is open to anyone with an interest in sustainability, agriculture, and growing their own food using regenerative practices. Participants can sign up online (https://learn.living-earth.africa) and start learning at their own pace from anywhere in Namibia.
