Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila has visited Ompundja and Uuvudhiya constituencies to familiarise herself with the development in the two areas.

She visited several water infrastructure facilities of which some of the projects were constructed through the Disaster Risk Fund in 2019 to help regions withstand emergencies.

According to her, these programmes formed part of resilience building that the government decided to embark upon to capacitate regions to survive emergencies.

“I was happy to see the reservoir that has been built and also the upgrading of the capacity of a number of pipelines that are supporting the water infrastructures that we have set up around the areas where our farmers in this area graze their cattle,” said Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.

Despite water infrastructure being in place to provide clean water to the farmers, the PM took note of other challenges, especially road infrastructure that remains a challenge and said the government is finding alternative ways of funding to address this challenge.

“As I have indicated, it is a commitment of government to look at alternative sources of funding so that we can expedite the ongoing programmes and roll out the infrastructure network to all the areas that are not catered for,” said the PM.

She also assessed progress made in cutlines within the grassland of Uuvudhiya constituency by the ministry of environment and forestry and hear the challenges facing the officials especially on the grader that has broken down while working on the cutlines. Cutlines are meant to curb the spread of veld fires.

The PM and other Swapo leaders are touring the northern regions as part of the party’s internal leadership campaign.
