Former president Hifikepunye Pohamba has called upon the Ruacana Town Council to ensure the town has enough serviced land for residential and business purposes.

He said this would create a conducive environment for the town’s inhabitants and attract much-needed investors to boost the local economy.

Pohamba was speaking at the 10th anniversary celebrations of Ruacana Town Council and further called on the council to ensure services are delivered to the people efficiently and in line with national development goals.

The 10th anniversary should serve to keep the management and residents of Ruacana focussed on the task at hand and motivate council to develop the town further, he said.

“It is your duty as officials entrusted to manage the affairs of Ruacana Town, to ensure that services are delivered to the people efficiently in line with our national development agenda,” Pohamba told administrators at the town.

The event was celebrated under the theme “Celebrating 10 years of service 2005 – 2015.”

In the 10 years since Ruacana was recognised as a local authority, the town council has tarred roads in Oshifo and Old Ruacana, as well as constructed the Omonauatjihozu gravel road.

The town has further witnessed the servicing of a number of residential and business plots at Oshifo and Old Ruacana, the electrification of the streets of its suburbs, as well as the implementation of the Build Together Programme.

Ruacana continues to face challenges, such as limited financial and human resources, poverty and unemployment, as well as the need to expand infrastructure, such as roads and provide electricity and other services to the residents.

Pohamba praised Ruacana Town Council for rising to the challenge to develop the town further. “Despite the challenges, Ruacana has been transformed into the beautiful town it is today, while steadily improving social and economic conditions of the residents,” he said.
