Pohamba tells NNN to continue development agenda

Pohamba tells NNN to continue development agenda

ETUNDA – Former president Hifikepunye Pohamba last Thursday urged Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to continue the work left by late Founding President Sam Nujoma and other previous presidents.
Pohamba made this remark during the first regional memorial service in honour of Nujoma at his residence at Etunda village, Okahao constituency in the Omusati region, following his passing in Windhoek on 8 February 2025.

Pohamba said, when Nandi-Ndaitwah takes over as president in a few weeks, she should ensure stability is maintained for the benefit of the Namibian people.
He urged Nandi-Ndaitwah to ensure the government delivers on development, maintains Swapo’s leadership, and works hard for the Namibian people.

Addressing Nandi-Ndaitwah, he said: “Nujoma has completed his task, and I have done my part as the second president, and now when you take over office, you should ensure that work is done,” Pohamba told the president-elect, who was in attendance.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said in her tribute Namibia had lost a statesman, a people’s leader, and a man who valued peace and unity.
“Nujoma was a gift from God to the Namibian people,” she said, adding that Namibians should carry forward the legacy of the late president; a legacy of unity, peace and stability, and his idea of inclusivity should guide Namibians.

“We must commit ourselves to carry on where Nujoma has left off,” she added.
Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that Nujoma once advised and encouraged her to ensure she retains the position of vice president, as it will lead to her becoming the next president.

“I have listened and followed his wisdom and indeed, it has come to pass,” she said.
Nujoma’s body was taken to Eenhana in the Ohangwena region on Friday morning for the second regional memorial service before another service was held at Katima Mulilo in Zambezi province yesterday.
