The Khomas police are looking for three suspects who robbed a Southern Cross Security Company cash-in-transit vehicle of N$1.36 million on Wednesday afternoon.
The robbery took place at Nedbank’s Black Chain Shopping Mall branch in Katutura.
Khomas crime investigations coordinator, Nikolaus Kupembona, said the police are hard at work to ensure the suspects are arrested but urged the public to assist in providing concrete information that will lead to the arrest of the trio.
According to police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi, a 36-year-old security guard and his colleague were transporting money from Nedbank business centre in Ausspannplatz, dropped some of it at the Nedbank branch at Avani Hotel in Independence Avenue then proceeded to Nedbank Black Chain branch.
“When they arrived at the Nedbank branch at Black Chain, they got out of their vehicle. The complainant opened the van door and removed two boxes of cash to take it inside the bank. With his colleague guarding him, three armed suspects started firing shots at them of which one shot struck the security guard and another vehicle belonging to Nashua on the bonnet,” she said.
Shikwambi further added some shots hit the bank wall and entrance glass doors causing damage.
According to Shikwambi, the suspects managed to take the boxes containing the cash of N$1 360 000 and fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Polo sedan.
“The suspects are unknown but no one was arrested and the investigation continues,” she said.
Kupembona said since the manhunt started, information started coming in but not concrete.
“I am urging the public to report to the nearest police station if they come across any person in the community spending money recklessly and negligently so that they will be investigated,” he said.
