ONGWEDIVA– A police officer from Oshakati, Kornelius Nghitewapo (44), has been missing since 2023, with efforts to locate him proving futile.
His brother Junias Nghitewapo confirmed that Kornelius was last seen on 29 December 2023 at Oshakati.
Kornelius is from Omundudu village in the Ohangwena region.
He was last seen at his lodging in Oshakati. He was on leave and was expected to return to work on 8 January 2024.
Nghitewapo said the family is speechless and made a heartfelt plea to the nation to help locate his missing brother.
“We tried to disseminate information on the radio, but he has not been found. We are worried,” he said.
He described the experience as concerning and frightening’.
“The whole family is in a dilemma. We just want to see our brother,” he said.
Oshana police chief Naftal Sakaria stated that the police have been relentlessly searching for Kornelius but such efforts have not proven successful.
“We searched the riverbed and lakes, but we did not find him,” Sakaria said.
He added that they even went to Angola and other neighbouring countries to search for him.
“There were rumours that he had been arrested in Angola, so we searched at the police holding cells there too,” he stated.
Sakaria expressed his loss of hope, stating that Kornelius’ bank account has not been used since his disappearance.
“He was receiving his salary, but it has never been withdrawn,” he added.
Sakaria urged police officers to seek assistance whenever they find themselves in difficult situations.
