ONGWEDIVA – Police supremo Joseph Shikongo said the police will soon provide updates on several high-profile cases.
This includes those involving missing persons and the Namibia Desert Diamond (Namdia) heist.
Shikongo’s remarks came almost two weeks, following deafening silence from both Namdia and the police regarding the robbery in which precious gems, valued at over N$280 million, were allegedly stolen.
Speaking to this publication exclusively last week, he acknowledged that the public has been yearning for updates, particularly on protracted and unresolved cases.
He specifically pointed to the Namdia robbery that occurred last month at its offices in Klein Windhoek.
“We will also provide updates on the case of Mandela Nakale, a boy who went missing in Lüderitz in December 2020,” Shikongo said. Nakale went missing when he was three years old.
Shikongo stressed the importance of updating the public on several unsolved murders, including that of six-year-old Oswyn Myne, whose mutilated body was discovered at a sewage dam in Karibib in 2022.
He also referred to the murder of Magdalena Stoffels, who was raped and killed in a riverbed in Windhoek while on her way to school in 2010 when she was 17 years old. Additionally, Shikongo pointed to the murder of Avihe Ujaha, whose body was cut up and scattered in Katutura in 2018.
He said the police will provide updates on this case.
Shikongo stressed that it is important for the public to be updated on these unsolved cases, so that they are aware of the police’s efforts.
“When the case happened, it was widely known by the public, so people should be informed about what the police are doing,” he added.
He urged the public to continue collaborating with the police by sharing information about crimes.
“It’s very important for the community to unite with the police to fight against crime. It makes the work of the police easier,” he said.
He added that people should report crimes in a timely manner, especially in cases involving rape victims.
