Katima Mulilo
Two new police recruits currently undergoing basic police training at Katounyana Police Training Centre some 10 kilometres outside Katima Mulilo town were arrested on Thursday for fraud and uttering.
They appeared in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The two suspects were identified as 31-year-old Hengari Ombunondjo and 27-year-old Elsia Shaduka. The two are accused of unlawfully and intentionally uttering and changing their Grade 12 certificates in order to be recruited into the police force.
The two suspects successfully completed all the stages of the training, which started in June last year, and were due to graduate on January 29.
However, their luck ran out as during the verification process, it was discovered they had allegedly forged their Grade 12 certificates.
Their case was not heard in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’a Court, because the crime was committed at different towns where their recruitment was processed.
Female suspect Elisia Shaduka is alleged to have committed the crime at Oshakati in the Oshana Region, while male suspect Hengari Ombunodjo is alleged to have committed the crime at Gobabis in the Omaheke Region.
Their cases of fraud and uttering were transferred to those towns, where they are expected to make their first appearance in connection with the case in court this week, where it will be determined whether they will be granted bail of or not.
Prosecutor George Matali represented for the State and Magistrate Vincent Nzaca presided over the case.
