Home National Police reward for Cheryl murder increase to N$100 000

WINDHOEK – The reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator(s) in the murder of nine-year-old Cheryl Avihe Ujaha was increased to N$100 000.

This is after come Ohlthaver and List (O&L) Group voluntarily came forward with creative ideas to assist law enforcement in resolving this murder case and other future heinous crimes.

Ujaha’s dismembered body was discovered a week ago in a riverbed near Staanvas in Katutura after she went missing three days earlier from her home in Katutura.

Nampol Inspector-General Sebastian Ndeitunga yesterday said contrary to reports, that Ujaha’s body was not boiled. However, he said there were marks of paint found on her body. “I don’t want to pre-empt what the forensic results will reveal,” he said.

Ndeitunga said O&L pledged the money, including the funding for the establishment of the Namibian Police Force Children’s Protection Fund to partially cover the expenses of the certain activities in this particular case and future investigations.
“We need to show unity being together fighting these evils. We all got children and Cheryl is one of our own and if you got children you know what it means, it could be yours. Cheryl is a family member of an employee of ours; hence it is an emotional matter [for us],” stated O&L executive chairperson Sven Thieme.

In addition, O&L corporate relations manager Patricia Hoeksema said Pick n Pay, a subsidiary of O&L, will bring in whistles which children can use in cases of danger. They will be sold for N$17.99.
Similarly, the National Special Risks Insurance Association (NASRIA) followed suit and pledge an amount of N$10 000 towards the fund.

Ndeitunga said the fund was established by Nampol and O&L Group and will be jointly managed to support this investigation or other serious investigations, awareness campaigns and other initiatives to prevent and solve serious crimes.
He said contribution could be made to the fund on: First National Bank, Gold Business Account, account number 62267190850, at Windhoek corporate center branch. The  branch code is 281872.
