WINDHOEK – The annual cultural festival of the Polytechnic of Namibia (PoN) kicked off here on Monday under the theme “Culture is the cornerstone of humanity”.
The 19th edition of the festival started with a parade from Korner Street into Independence Avenue, then into Peter Muller Street, before turning into Bismarck Street and eventually ending at the campus. Various activities are scheduled to take place during the five-day fiesta.
The organising committee’s public relations officer, Imaculata Garuses, told Nampa during the procession that the theme this year aims to bring all students and people from different cultures together. The parade was an objective of the PoN two years ago to attract the general public to the festivities. “The main idea was to invite the public, and educate them on how culture can bring everyone together, and also how education can expose different aspects, not just through books but through culture,” she notes.
Garuses indicates that the International Cuisine today will be the highlight of this year’s festival, and will showcase 17 international and nine local traditional food tables. There are a lot at the flea market consisting of 23 stalls selling food, beverages, clothing, salons, craft and jewellery. On Thursday evening, local artists will entertain festival goers, while the crowning of Mr and Miss Polytech will conclude festivities on Friday.
