On a very cold Saturday afternoon the CTC C went up against CTC Poly in the Men’s League, but Poly was equal to the task, despite the chilly weather, winning two singles and one doubles to amass a total of 14 to 6 points over CTC C to finish in 3rd place on the overall men’s rankings.
The first singles match set the tone for the day when CTC C veteran ace, Mkhululi Khupe went up against Socrates Muyambo from Poly, with the latter winning with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 score. Khupe is a highly experienced player and still going strong, but Muyambo was in top form as he delivered one of his best performances to subdue the veteran.
CTC C’s Ndumiso Moyo (Jnr), in a very tight match against one of Poly’s strong team players, lost to Colin Nyandoro (3-6, 4-6). In the doubles, David Ipinge and Marsorry Ickua from CTC C won against Poly’s Robert Riethmueller and Patrick Paulus (3-6, 6-3, 10-8).
In the second doubles, åKhupe and Moyo (Jnr) played an almost even match against Riethmueller and Paulus in the first set, which they won by tiebreak (7-6). They, however, broke the resistance of their opponents in the second set, which they took by 6-0.
A perfect day on the pitch for Polytechnic was sealed in the third set when Muyambo and Nyandoro defeated the CTC combination of Ipinge and Ickua in two straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Poly now is third in the men’s second league table ranking, but still has to play one make-up match against the top team of CTC A.
