Positive vibes only … NNN tells Namibians to reject negativity

ONGWEDIVA – President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on Namibians to reject negativity, and instead embrace peace and love as guiding principles for building a better society.

Speaking at the Girl Guides Association of Namibia’s Thinking Day celebration at the Elcin Church in Ongwediva on Saturday, the President passionately advocated for the growth and support of the Girl Guides movement.

“Peace and love are the way forward. That is what you learn in the Girl Guides. We must never entertain negative energy. Let us raise our children in a manner that promotes harmony, discipline and selflessness,” she advised.

Having been a Girl Guide for decades, Nandi-Ndaitwah shared how the organisation profoundly impacted her life by instilling the values of service to others without expecting anything in return.

She said it taught her to give, serve and respect everyone, regardless of their background.

The Head of State called on parents and guardians to encourage their children – both boys and girls – to join the association.

She noted that the Girl Guides provide essential life skills and guidance that go beyond the
classroom.

“The association fosters inclusivity, allowing individuals from different religious and cultural backgrounds to come together in unity,” she added.

The President touched on pressing social issues, highlighting the high rate of gender-based violence in the country.

She referenced the recent tragic murders in Okahandja, stressing the need for early intervention through moral education as offered by Girl Guides.

Chief commander of the Girl Guides Association Gretta Gaspar said: “we are not just an
organisation. We are a family that builds character. Our mission is to nurture leaders who are guided by love, peace and integrity”.

She expressed gratitude to the President for her support and presence, saying it was a strong vote of confidence in the association’s work.

13-year-old Selma Ndeshihafela, a Girl Guide from Oshakati, said the event was both empowering and emotional.

“Being a Girl Guide makes me feel strong and loved. I have friends from different places. We learn how to help each other,” she stated.
