Ausiku applauds completion of Nkurenkuru clinic

NKURENKURU – The Kavango West governor, Sirkka Ausiku says her year is ending well as she is happy to hear that the long-awaited completion of the Nkurenkuru Primary Healthcare clinic will soon take place.

The clinic will soon open its doors to the public as all the necessary medical equipment and items have now been installed to serve the community.

However, there is a shortage of staff to operate the clinic at the moment.

According to the governor, she was informed by the region’s health director Fransiska Hamutenya that what is left now is for the ministry to employ a structure of staff to work at the clinic.

“The region is happy that the ministry responded positively to our plea to address incomplete projects in the region, namely the Nkurenkuru PHC and Gcaruha PHC clinic and we are looking forward without any further delays to the opening of these facilities which will assist our communities,” Ausiku noted.

The governor was also briefed that the construction of the Gcaruha PHC clinic, which has been abandoned since 2012, is also going to be completed.

The contractor has already been appointed and a site handover was done last month and they are on site.

“Nkurenkuru is a fast-growing town that needs suitable health and educational facilities to attract experts and investors to come and work in our town and region at large. The region is at the same time requesting the ministry to commence with the construction of the district hospital, of which the groundbreaking was done in 2012 by former president, Hifikepunye Pohamba,” she noted.

The governor once again appealed to all residents of the region to continue adhering to Covid-19 protocols during this festive period.

“We are working towards opening the clinic before the next financial year. Although there’s no staff for the clinic currently, the ministry will use the staff for Nkurenkuru district hospital, which have been vacant and are currently being sorted out.

Once that is done, we hope to allocate some to the clinic and we will then open the clinic,’’ said the region’s health director Fransiska Hamutenya.
