2005-12-06Staff Report 2 "By Kuvee Kangueehi WINDHOEK THE Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) will today launch investigations into Namibia's biggest sporting code - soccer. In a short press release issued by the Chief Administrator of the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC), Rusten Mogane, he said his institution would investigate the state of affairs of the NFA, and individuals and clubs organizing sports events. The sport chief whip however did not want to divulge more information and said more details would be revealed today at a press briefing. This is the first time that the NSC launches investigations into the affairs of soccer despite the code being marred by controversy over the years. A number of people in the football fraternity have been calling for investigations for years and are likely to welcome the move. However, there are serious questions about whether the NSC has the capacity to probe the sport code, which is in a terrible state. Despite the soccer leadership claiming that they have improved the administration on the pitch, Namibian football has deteriorated to the extent that supporters have almost lost faith in the game that they so passionately loved before the new leadership took over. Namibian football under the leadership of legal heavyweight Judge Petrus Damaseb has gone down in the FIFA football rankings. Namibia, once a respected emerging footballing nation is now the whipping boys of all countries in the Southern African region. Damaseb, instead of focusing his energies on improving the game, has true to his personality rather chosen to bully everybody in the game and has managed to hold onto football with an iron fist, sending everybody who's challenged him into the footballing wilderness. The NSC earlier this year launched investigations into the affairs of the All Namibia Netball Association (ANNA) and the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU). The investigations were necessitated because of the persistent problems within the two national sports codes. Netball in the country was inactive for a very long time and players in the regions, except for Khomas and Erongo who are active, complained to his office saying there was ""nothing"" going on in netball. After the investigations the Minister of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture John Mutorwa decided to give the All Namibian Netball Association (ANNA) the mandate to sort out all technical issues the sport code is experiencing." 2005-12-06Staff Report 2
