Duo arraigned for attempted theft

Home National Duo arraigned for attempted theft

WINDHOEK – Two men appeared in court last Friday for theft under false pretences.

Emmanuel Kashuupulwa and Josia ‘Zorro’ Muhongo allegedly pretended to be police officers and demanded N$300 000 from a man in Ondangwa in order not to arrest him for dealing in diamonds.

The two men went to the bank with the man, but he later reported the matter.

New Era could not establish much details but the incident happened on January 20 this year. The two were arrested on February 25. Muhongo was granted bail of N$20 000 while Kashuupulwa the co-accused was denied bail.

The matter will be transferred to the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court and continue on March 9.

Kashuupulwa was denied bail for fear that he will interfere with ongoing investigations and the other reason was he could commit similar offences, since there is a case of impersonating a police officer.

Magistrate Jermaine Muchali presided while prosecutor Lusepani Tatelo represented the State.

Three years ago Muhongo was one of five men acquitted of allegedly swindling a Lebanese man Vicken Kaprelian out of N$2.2 million in Klein Windhoek.

Men pretending to be police officers allegedly approached Kaprelian. The Canadian resident was supposedly negotiating a business deal at a house in Klein Windhoek when the swindle allegedly occurred.
