FC Ongos downs Nampol…goes top of NPFL

FC Ongos head coach Elemu Agnus believes that capitalizing on opportunities they created against Khomas Nampol ultimately secured victory for them on Friday night.

Formerly known as Tura Magic, Ongos handed Khomas Nampol their fifth defeat of the season, continuing their impressive run in the Debmarine Premiership on Friday evening at Independence Stadium.

Simeon Elago scored a brace, while Stanley Ndjavera also hit the back of the net, securing maximum points for the team.

Friday’s victory propelled Ongos FC to the top of the table with 42 points from 19 matches with a game in hand. Despite this feat, Agnus believes it is too early to discuss title prospects and instead emphasises the importance of focusing on collecting points from every match they play.

“The boys delivered and earned much-needed points. They are putting in the hard work, and credit goes to the technical team and management for their support. We are focused on improving our game, taking each match as it comes. The boys have a motto: win the game and credit the management. So, we plan to collect points from each match,” he said.

Meanwhile, Khomas Nampol’s loss on Friday kept them third on the log standings with 41 points, behind leaders FC Ongos and second-placed African Stars.

Expressing disappointment after the loss, Fortune Eichab attributed it to the two-week layoff. However, he vowed the team will regroup and strengthen their performance.

“The two-week break may have affected us, but we accept the loss and move forward. We’ll go back to the drawing board, correct our mistakes, and return stronger. We were completely off today, and we could have lost by a larger margin, but we will learn from this and move on,” he said.

In other fixtures on Saturday, Blue Waters suffered a 0-2 loss at home to newly promoted side Eeshoke Chula Chula, while Tigers played to a 0-0 draw against Orlando Pirates. Okakarara Young Warriors, on the other hand, suffered a 1-0 home loss to Unam. - mkambukwe@nepc.com.na
