A French business delegation from T&T Corporation that visited Namibia in January 2022 to explore potential industries for investment has hailed the country’s business environment as attractive. The delegation was led by Namibia’s ambassador to France, Albertus Aochamub. 

Responding to questions from New Era, T&T Corporation board chairperson Toussaint Miesi said Namibia’s business environment is “very attractive”. 

“Support in administrative procedures, identification of local partners and tax incentive measures, are some of the weapons implemented to make Namibia even better,” he outlined.

Miesi noted discovering Namibia was a shock. He said the meticulous organisation of the meetings by the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), the quality of the infrastructure and the feeling of security impressed him during his five-day visit.

Commenting on the Namibian sectors with significant investment, Miesi said: “Over the course of the meetings and exchanges with public and private companies and more broad economic players, we have been able to identify several sectors with high potential. However, three sectors stand out completely: energy, transport and logistics as well as agro-processing.”

According to the chairman, renewable energy, in particular solar and green hydrogen, have a bright future in Namibia. Miesi added in the fields of transport and logistics, there are many opportunities for the development of a railway network and multimodal platforms, and also hailed the food processing sector as one with great potential.

Furthermore, Miesi said he saw the enormous damage caused by the pandemic in Namibia, particularly on tourism: “This is why we think it is essential to continue investing in infrastructure (road, energy, rail, etc.) to accelerate the food industry (meat, poultry, etc.) to meet demand and export.”
