Horse racing to raise funds for school

A horse racing event aimed at raising funds for the Mphe Thuto Primary School will be held at Tsjaka Turf Club tomorrow in the Omaheke region.

Speaking to New Era Sport, one of the competition organisers, Zuma Kavirombo, said the government requires assistance from various stakeholders to cater to the school’s needs.

Kavirombo says that as a community sport, horse racing is growing, and it is high time that they meet the government halfway to contribute to the education of the Namibian child. “We are hosting this event to provide educational needs to this primary school with the profit gained,” said the organiser.

He highlighted that participating horses will battle in eight sprints where an amount of N$75 000 will be up for grabs. “We will have eight plates for both Thoroughbred and Nambred horses, where each category will compete in four sprints.”

The Thoroughbred horses will register for N$300, while the Nambred will pay N$250 to participate in the competition.

“Although this event is not on the calendar of the Namibia Horse Racing Association, we expect a high turnout as horses have rested for some time, and we as a horse racing family need to contribute to the education development of our country,” he added. Kavirombo added that since the event is running on the eve of Tsjaka Farmer’s event, the Boerperd horses will vie for a collection (pool and ride) competition and register for N$200.

“This is aimed at entertaining the crowd and, at the same time add value to the day to help generate more funds for the school,” he alluded.

Tsjaka is 50 kilometres east of Gobabis, and the sprints will start at 11h00.
