It’s the festive season, let’s travel!

It’s the festive season, let’s travel!

The festive season means different things to many of us. For many, it’s the time to finally relax after a long year of hard work, spend time with and celebrate Christmas with the family and plan and prep for the new year just before things get hectic again.

For others, it’s the time to get away with (or from, I’m not judging) family.

This is what I am here to help with. I want to share Namibian experiences I think everyone should have at least once in one lifetime and the festive season would be the perfect time to do so!

Right, let’s get right into it.

Mowani Mountain Camp

My visit to Mowani Mountain Camp was brief but, quite honestly, one of the best domestic travels I have had thus far. Mowani Mountain Camp is in the heart of Damaraland. Because of how rocky it is, the nights can get chilly, so pack a jacket! The staff at the camp offer amazing service! Birthday celebrations are met with rich chocolate cake. Anniversary? A beautiful, private, candle-light dinner can be set up for you and your beloved in the boma, and in case you desire a perfect sunset, I don’t think another exists outside of Mowani.

Various activities can be experienced at the lodge, including a six-hour elephant drive and the amazing Damara living museum.

The camp is still running travel specials for locals, so make sure to take advantage of it while it is still available.

Sonop Lodge of Zannier Hotels

I won’t lie, I struggled to leave Sonop Lodge.

Which – between the tents nestled among the rocky mountains in the middle of the desert, and the private outside cinema they set up for guests to feel an out of this world experience – would you like to hear first?

Sonop is a dream! A safari dream!

Everything was done to perfection. The décor, the service. I have to give a personal shout-out to our guide, George. He truly made our stay special.

The lodge offers a number of activities that include biking, and a day trip to Deadvlei, horse riding, and sunset and sunrise drives.

Sonop Lodge also has special rates for domestic travellers. Pack, let’s go!

The Desert Whisper

Food aside, I enjoyed my stay at the Desert Whisper. It is a content creators dream. The aesthetics are placed just right. If you value privacy and solitude, Desert Whisper is likely the best destination for you. It is a “spaceship” pod that is available to only two guests at a time. Imagine?

The pod has a luxurious fully fitted kitchen and the fridge stocked with drinks of every kind. There is something for everyone. Whether you’re a Windhoek Draught guy, a whiskey gent, or champagne hun, the Desert Whisper has got you. Don’t worry, cooldrink people, like myself, are also catered to.

Activities including a desert drive. Guests also have 24-hour access to staff via phone should they need any assistance.

The lodge is a four-hour drive away from Windhoek.

Shipwreck Lodge

I have dreamt of the shipwreck lodge for years and the lodge did not fail me when I eventually made it. My drive to Shipwreck Lodge was probably the furthest I have ever driven, what? With the lodge being an eight-hour drive from Windhoek. It is however very much worth it!

This visit came with many surprises:

1. Namibia actually has clay castles.

2. A beach lunch in the middle of nowhere is possible.

The lodge is also currently running a special for domestic travellers.
