OMUTHIYA – Oshikoto Swapo coordinator Armas Amukwiyu says the regional executive committee has refused to entertain a request to recall Oniipa mayor David Kambonde. 

Last month, the Oniipa district executive petitioned Amukwiyu’s office with a request to recall the Swapo councillor, whom they accused of colluding with opposition councillors serving on the local authority council. 

Amukwiyu this week maintained Kambonde will remain in his position, dismissing the request to recall him as “flawed”. 
“In short, it is what was resolved; therefore, he could not be charged for breaking the code of conduct of the party as the whole process orchestrated by the district committee was not right,” Amukwiyu briefly told New Era.

Kambonde was accused of colluding with councillors of Independents Patriots for Change (IPC) during last year’s office bearer’s election. 
The district executive committee questioned why Kambonde accepted a nomination from an opposition member, while they also took him on for voting an IPC councillor to be part of the management committee. 

 “These were internal matters being discussed, and I can say the issues were resolved amicably, as we established the fault and rectified. We are all bound to make mistakes,” said district coordinator Vilho Nuunyango.

He also claimed the mayor was warned in the meeting of his actions and told to protect the party above anything. In the same vein, Nuunyango, who is also the constituency councillor for Oniipa, revealed his intention to vacate the position of district coordinator.
“Once we have an extraordinary congress, I will tender my resignation to allow others to operate while I focus on the greater duty of providing and serving the constituency. I will not manage to serve two masters at once,” he stressed.

Approached for comment, Kambonde said the dignity of those who elected him was restored. 
“I am also happy because the community is happy. They voted, trusting me to be in their leadership. Therefore, I do not harbour any hate on anyone; my focus is service delivery to the people,” said Kambonde.
