NKURENKURU – A 50-year-old man appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the illegal cultivation of 29 plants of cannabis at Nkurenkuru.

Johannes Kengelezi Ihemba was arrested by police in the Kavango West region last Friday.

The police also discovered 14 prepared balies and some seeds of cannabis valued at N$ 21 800 in his possession.

Ihemba was granted bail of N$2 000, which he paid.

The case was remanded to 21 February 2022.

“Our members conducted an operation, whereby they apprehended the suspect with 14 balies of cannabis, 24 plants of cannabis, five big plants of cannabis and a plastic bag with seeds of cannabis near Five Seasons here in Nkurenkuru,” explained Kavango West police commander Josephat Abel, who confirmed the arrest to New Era last weekend.

The police uprooted the cannabis plants and took them as evidence, along with the seeds and balies.
