MTC Namibia recently celebrated its ISO certification status, received from Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS), a recognised ISO Certification Body.

The certificate handover ceremony, held on 7 June 2024, was attended by MTC managing director Licky Erastus as well as members of the MTC executive committee and MTC board of directors.

ISO credentials authenticate MTC Namibia’s services, practices and procedures in the realm of international standards assurance.

ISO’s historical relevance dates to the mid-twentieth century.

With over 22 000 published standards adopted by organisations in more than 160 countries, companies strive for the opportunity to earn ISO certifications, and verify their excellence in the business world.

In 2009, MTC Namibia became certified for its Quality Management System, and was awarded the ISO 9001:2008 certificate.

In 2019, MTC renewed its efforts and expanded its management system, spanning 6 ISO standards.

In 2024, the company achieved its target, and received ISO Certification for its Integrated Management System covering; Quality Management ISO9001:2015; Occupational Health and Safety Management ISO45001:2018; Environment Management ISO14001:2015; Information Security, Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection Management ISO 27001:2022; Business Continuity, Security and Resilience Management ISO 22301:2019; and Information Technology Service Management ISO 20000-1:2018.

Such a testament of endorsement is a statement on MTC’s quality of its systems, policies, processes and customer satisfaction.

MTC is the only telco in Namibia
which has its entire operations ISO-certified.

Speaking on MTC Namibia’s achievements, Erastus enthused that the company’s accolades could not be concealed.

“We are the first in Namibia and in SADC to achieve certification for six standards at the same time, as well as the first in Africa to achieve certification of our Integrated Management System with version 2022 of ISO27001 Information Security. For an organisation like MTC, it is critical to remain competitive. One may have processes, policies and procedures, but efficiency is the winning component. It is the absence of mistakes, the presence of detailed planning and proactive risk assessment that gives organisations such as MTC the cutting edge,” said Erastus.

Moreover, MTC Namibia stated it stays ahead of the curve by achieving full ISO certification, as several institutions in the public and private sector have declined business with non-ISO certified organisations.

Validity is maintained by anti-corruption practices, which preserve and promote fair conduct.

MTC’s internal ISO auditors have already participated in their first internal audit under the supervision of a seasoned contracted ISO auditor.

Advantages that ISO certified establishments hold over the competition is that the certified company can impart a sense of confidence with their clients and stakeholders.
MTC’s commitment to premium outputs and compliance exercises provides assurance to stakeholders, articulating its commitment to efficiency, customer satisfaction and ethical conduct.
