‘O radio station yandje’ now in Ongwediva

Omulunga Radio, Namibia’s prominent Oshiwambo commercial radio station, has expanded its horizon and recently set up a studio in Ongwediva in the Oshana region.  Since 2002, Omulunga Radio has been a commercial station with roots deeply set in the Aawambo community, spreading listenership to half a million listeners nationwide – and over 50% of these listeners are based in the north.

“Radio is about connecting with people and increasing our connection with our northern base; it was always a natural progression to have an operational studio in the north. This goal has finally been realised, with a fully functional studio that has now gone live from the heart of Ongwediva at the Ongwediva Trade Fair Centre,” Future Media spokesperson Laimi Elago told VIBEZ! this week.

She said the timing was apt as the Ongwediva Trade Fair makes its comeback after a two-year hiatus; thus, the launch of the Omulunga studio could not have been at a better time.   “As all roads lead to Ongwediva on 23 August 2022, we look forward to making our contribution and meeting listeners, fans, friends

and family, and welcoming them into our studios,” said Elago.

Future Media also runs Radiowave, Fresh FM and Nova 103.5, previously known as Radio Kudu.

Award-winning radio personality and MC Lukas Nambala, famously known as DJ Nambalakats, is now based in the north and will continue to set the airwaves alight – just as he did in Windhoek.

“I feel excited for this new path the station has taken. I am beyond words right now. I have carried outside broadcasts from this part of the country numerous times and the people here have shown massive love and appreciation to Omulunga,” said the Onaanda-born and raised.  He will present his ‘Afternoon Easy Drive’ show from Ongwediva, while his co-host Emilia Nakatana will broadcast from Windhoek every day between 14h00 to 18h00.  DJ Nambalakats said Omulunga radio listeners can expect diverse engagements on topical issues from him and his co-host.

He hopes to continue doing what he loves: informing and entertaining.
