ONGWEDIVA - Oshana police chief Naftal Sakaria has said the safety of people during the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair remains their paramount priority.
The police operation during the period of the
trade fair aims to prevent crime, especially in Ongwediva, as they foresee a big influx of people to the region.
They will operate for 24 hours for the duration of the fair until 2 September.
“We will deal with all the thieves who are coming to Ongwediva to rob people,” he stressed.
In addition, Sakaria said a charge office will be at the trade fair centre to provide timeous police services. “People should always report criminal activities to any police officer who is on the grounds,” he said, adding that the police officers will be
on the trade fair premises and outside monitoring the movements of people.
Sakaria emphasised that international traders must be free from being robbed, noting that all safety measures will be implemented at the trade fair.
The regional police chief thus urged people to be careful when taking public transport, especially women. “Nowadays, public transport is not safe. Taxi drivers are also robbing people,” he cautioned.
Sakaria said people must also not carry weapons whenever they are coming to the trade fair because sufficient safety is already there. “People should not leave valuable properties in their vehicles. People should make sure they lock their vehicles,” he continued.
