Oshikoto awards 46 longserving cops

OMUTHIYA - The Oshikoto Police yesterday conferred longservice awards on 46 of its members in appreciation of their efforts and for their dedication and commitment to protecting and serving the justice system. Medals of 10 years and 20 years of service were conferred on the officers as well as for
bravery and honorary discharge of their duties.

“We are proudly here today reaffirming hard work, dedication, patriotism, loyalty, vigilance, professionalism
and non-partisan. This is also to celebrate the service and sacrifice you have devoted to serving and protecting,” said the regional police commander, Commissioner Armas Shivute.

“With this, I am confident that other junior members will be encouraged to walk in your footsteps and work harder so that tomorrow they too can be acknowledged as those who came and epitomised diligence,
discipline and integrity,” added Shivute. He, in the same vein, rebuked ‘rotten apples’ who abuse the
power and privileges of wearing dignified uniforms and who have been dismissed with dishonour
and the badge of shame.

The commissioner appealed to community members to join hands with the police in order
to combat crime successfully. “Safety and security don’t just happen, it’s a result of collective consensus and public investment,” he reiterated. Speaking at the same occasion, Oshikoto governor Henock
Kankoshi, urged members of the police to remain committed to justice and be winners at all times.

“Especiallytoourinvestigators, do your work carefully and diligently to avoid losing cases. You should also say no to bribes, rather promote your integrity and show professionalism in all your conduct. Therefore, in all
you do make sure you become a winner,” said Kankoshi, as he handed over the medals to police officers.
