Pensioner donates 300 blankets

A 67-year-old woman, who has love for children, has donated 300 blankets to children in Okahandja Park to keep them warm during the extremely cold winter in
Windhoek.

Tilla Isaacks from Windhoek said she runs a soup kitchen that feeds over 400 children in Okahandja Park – and when she felt the cold weather recently, she managed to solicit 300 blankets from her long-term sponsors.

“I managed to get the 300 blankets that I donated last week Friday – and now, I am busy looking for the 100 more so that all my children will benefit. It is cold, and I do not want my children to suffer from the cold. These are needy children from destitute families in Katutura’s Okahandja Park in Tobias Hainyeko,” she explained.

Isaacks on Friday donated blankets and a cooked-meal treat to children at the office of the councillor.

She said, so far, one of her sponsors promised 100 more blankets to donate to the remaining 100 kids.

“My wish is to get the remaining blankets before 2 July, as I promised to go hand over the groceries to those 100 children, who did not get blankets – then I can donate it together. I will also go feed them with cooked food on that particular day,” she said.

She said, although she is a pensioner, she felt that children deserve to be happy, despite their family backgrounds.

“I am hardworking because of those poor children. They deserve to be happy by having a decent meal and being warm during the extremely cold weather. I have been feeding them decent meals once a week because of the high number. I also donate groceries to them to cook at home,” she explained.

She said her efforts were made possible by the sponsors she secured decades ago since the establishment of her soup kitchen that first started feeding the pensioners but later realised that the children were more in need.

The councillor of Tobias Hainyeko constituency Christopher Likuwa applauded Isaacks for helping the children.

“This lady is always helping the needy children. She is the one who donated all those blankets,” said Likuwa.
