Rockley beach shines in Okahandja Derby

Rockley Beach from the Okahandja racing club owned the Okahandja Derby on Saturday, winning one race and ending second in another.

It won first place in the Open Import 2400 and an amount of N$25 000, followed by seasoned horse Starlile in second position with N$15 000.

Port Keys won third position and N$8 000.

The Open 1400 Import saw Unbroken Promises cross the finish line first, winning a prize of N$8 000, while Rockley Beach ended second and went home with N$4 800.

The third position pocketed N$1 600.

Meanwhile, in the Nambred category, Lady Diamond won first place and N$12 000, while Freedom Fighter took home N$7 200.

Von Trotha won N$4 800 for third place.

Speaking to this publication yesterday, Namibia Horse Racing Association vice president Mannes Hendricks said looking at the number of horses that took part, the event was a success.

“The event went as planned. We had so many horses that competed at the event and the completion lived up to expectations. We are just hoping that the sport will continue to grow all over the country,” he added.

The vice president was happy the event advanced the economy of the town, saying: “Good business was made over the weekend, as many business people made a lot of money through selling their goods, and this is what we want to see”.
