The MTC Salute Boxing Academy will next month host its much-anticipated boxing bonanza in the capital, where Fillemon Nghutenanye will defend his WBA Pan African flyweight title against Tanzania’s Ally Ngwando.
The boxing bonanza is scheduled for 12 November at Windhoek’s Safari Hotel, and it will also see seven other top undercard fights featuring some of the country’s renowned pugilists.
Speaking at yesterday’s launch, Nghutenanye said he does not know much about Ngwando, but that does not bother him, as he is always prepared to face any kind of wrath from whatever opponent.
His plan, he said, is to extend his winning streak to 10 wins.
He has only one draw to his name.
“I personally don’t know the guy, but I promise you that I will destroy him when we meet in the ring on that night. It doesn’t matter what strategy he is going to use - trust me, I am going to take him down and teach him a good lesson. I am willing to put my life on the line for my title,” said a confident Nghutenanye.
Ngwando also has an equally impressive record of eight wins, one loss and two draws, and he will come into this fight with one aim – wrestling the title away from the Namibian.
Also fighting on the night will be Immanuel Josef, who will defend his WBO Africa flyweight title against South Africa’s Tisetso Modisadife, while Abed Shikongo will also put his national super welterweight title on the line against Simon Shafindano.
America’s Edward Chambers will face Zimbabwe’s Elvis Moyo for a heavyweight showdown over eight rounds, while veteran fighter Lukas Ndafoluma will be squaring off against Mussah Mkwanda of Malawi in the super middleweight division over six rounds.
Harry Simon Jr will also be in action when he takes on Malawi’s Chikondi Makawa in a welterweight six-rounder, while Lazarus Shaningwa and Malawi’s Israel Kammwamba will battle it out in the super featherweight division over six rounds. Thomas Shifiona and John Shitilitha will open the day’s proceedings with a super bantamweight fight over six rounds. - mkambukwe@nepc.com.na
