Sanlam donates blankets to Oshakati psychiatric ward

ONGWEDIVA - Sanlam Namibia last week donated blankets worth N$67 000 to the Oshakati intermediate hospital’s psychiatric ward 16.

Sanlam Oshakati branch manager Abner Kalimbo said the donation was in response to a request from the health ministry.

“Sanlam’s contribution aligns with its corporate social responsibility pillar under health and welfare, emphasising the promotion of physical and mental well-being,” said Kalimbo during the handing-over event.

He added that the company firmly believes in collaborating with the government to ensure that citizens receive the care they deserve, enabling them to become productive members of society.

“Sanlam recognises that a healthy citizen is a productive citizen,” he stated.

Kalimbo said mental illness has rapidly emerged as a global emergency and it is thus crucial to provide comfort and warmth during winter to ensure the well-being of those battling mental health issues.

“We aim to raise awareness about the impact and extent of mental health issues in our society while helping to alleviate physical illness and injury surrounding these challenges. Sanlam aims to create a positive impact and create and contribute to a healthier society,” he said.

Oshana health director Johanna Haimene said Sanlam’s contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of the patients, who often face additional challenges during the cold months.

“The blankets will not only provide physical warmth but also offer comfort and a sense of security to individuals in our care,” she said.

Haimene highlighted that Sanlam’s donation has not only added value to the welfare of those in their care, but it has also lessened the stress they experience as healthcare providers when they put minimum bedding for patients.
