Tennis tournaments on card this December …international participants expected

The Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) and Hollard Insurance will host two tournaments this December, where top tennis players from the continent will grace the tennis court.

The NTA recently announced on its social media platforms the hosting of two back-to-back tournaments in the attractive coastal town of Swakopmund.

The action kicks off with the junior tournament scheduled for December 11th to 13th, followed by the senior tournament from December 14th to 17th, marking the culmination of the tennis season.

NTA President Samson Kaulinge stated that both tournaments are expected to attract a strong contingent of international participants, expressing his enthusiasm.

He remarked: “The Senior Tournament, commencing on the 14th of December at the Swakopmund Tennis Court, will be an open competition, welcoming players affiliated with any of our subscribed bodies”.

Kaulinge added: “We already have entries from Zambian and South African players, and we are actively seeking more participants. Local players have an excellent opportunity to showcase their skills and potentially be recognised and rated. With numerous tournaments lined up for next year, this is the chance to make a lasting impression”.

To enter the competition, individual players are required to pay N$300, while doubles teams will need to submit N$150. The winners will receive a substantial prize pool of N$21 000, which will be distributed among them.

Anton Kamerika, owner of the Rundu Tennis Club, emphasised the significance of the tournament, stating, “It’s a major event – not only due to the substantial prize money but also for the growth and development of aspiring players. As a club, we view this as an opportunity to represent our region effectively, and we are diligently training every day in preparation for the challenge. Holding regular tournaments on weekends has become our norm to gauge our readiness”.
