The Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) proudly announces a spectacular tribute concert, honouring the legendary King of Rumba, Papa Wemba. 

The concert, set to take place on 26 April at the FNCC, will celebrate the enduring legacy and profound influence of the iconic Congolese musician.

Shungu Chef Rumba and the Rumba Roots will come together to pay tribute to this cultural icon through electrifying performances of their most beloved hits, ensuring his music continues to resonate with audiences of all ages.

Attendees can expect to be transported on a musical journey spanning Papa Wemba’s illustrious career. 

Through soul-stirring renditions and heartfelt tributes, the concert will celebrate Papa Wemba’s enduring legacy and the profound impact he had on the world of music.

“Through this tribute concert, we aim to celebrate Papa Wemba’s unparalleled talent, creativity and cultural significance, ensuring that his legacy lives on for generations to come,” reads an invitation to the event from the FNCC.

Papa Wemba, born Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba, was a pioneer in the world of African music, renowned for his captivating voice, electrifying performances and innovative blend of Congolese rumba with various global music genres. 

Throughout his illustrious career, Papa Wemba not only entertained audiences worldwide, but also championed African culture, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry.

The tribute concert promises to be a night of enchanting melodies, vibrant rhythms and heartfelt homage to the musical genius of Papa Wemba.
