Vivo, City of Windhoek launch marathon

Vivo Energy and the City of Windhoek yesterday joined forces as they launched the annual Vivo Energy Windhoek Marathon, which will take place next month in the capital.

Set to grace the lively capital next month, this extraordinary event promises to ignite a passion for healthy living among Windhoek residents while generating crucial funds for the Windhoek Mayoral Fund, dedicated to supporting the less privileged.

Edward Walugembe, the managing director at Vivo Energy, expressed his happiness to be part of this meaningful endeavour, emphasising the shared values between the company and the City of Windhoek.

“At Vivo Energy, we take great pride in supporting a cause that champions health, wellness, community engagement, and social responsibility. We firmly believe that sports play an integral role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” said Walugembe.

He further emphasised the significance of the event, noting that beyond promoting physical fitness, it was an opportunity for people of all ages and fitness levels to come together, challenge themselves, and revel in the camaraderie of their fellow participants.

“While we strive to encourage a healthy lifestyle, we must also recognise the vital role this event plays in raising funds for the Windhoek Mayoral Fund, which supports the less fortunate in our community. This marathon is not solely about personal fitness but also about uniting individuals and fostering stronger communities. Together, we can achieve incredible feats when we rally behind a shared objective,” added Walugembe.

The proceeds from the event’s registration fees will be channelled to the Windhoek Resident Mayoral Trust, which extends support to various projects, including community development, assistance for vulnerable residents, and charitable organisations. Moreover, the trust endeavours to promote urban food and nutrition security while nurturing smart development partnerships.

Adding to the captivating ambience of the launch event at Zoo Park, Magdalena Lombardt, the deputy mayor of Windhoek, expressed her ardent support for this empowering initiative. She acknowledged the marathon as a symbol of endurance, determination, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.

“The marathon transcends being merely a race; it offers us an unparalleled opportunity to unite and make a profound impact on our community,” said the deputy mayor. She extended a heartfelt invitation to participants from across the nation, urging them to join this exceptional marathon. “I implore everyone in Namibia to join hands, register, and take part in this remarkable initiative that aims to uplift our community,” Lombardt added.
