Volleyball tourney at Swakopmund this weekend

The Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) will host the much-anticipated Bank Windhoek Doc Open Tournament this weekend at the coastal town of Swakopmund.

Billed as a highly-intensive volleyball occasion, this year’s edition has attracted 37 teams: 17 female and 20 males from as far as the Zambezi, Kavango East, Ohangwena and Oshana regions.

The event, which will take place at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund, is one of the NVF’s highlight events and will see players from Botswana and Germany also participating.

Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) president Hillary Dux said: “The Bank Windhoek NVF Doc Open Tournament has become an attraction to volleyball players and spectators locally and within Namibia’s neighbouring countries, such as Botswana and Zimbabwe. This shows that with Bank Windhoek’s support, volleyball has grown and is, no doubt, heading for greater heights”.

NVF competition director John Uushona said spectators can look forward to top-class volleyball action. “The Revivals and Active Performers volleyball teams want to retain dominance in both the female and male categories. The first match will start at 7h30 on Saturday morning, with the finals scheduled for Sunday evening,” he said.
