Woman arrested for torching ex-lover’s room

ONGWEDIVA – Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court has granted N$1 000 bail to a 35-year-old woman, who allegedly set her ex-boyfriend’s room on fire and assaulted his pregnant girlfriend.

The enraged Ruusa Abraham from Oshoopala village in the Uukwiyuushona constituency of Oshana region admitted to New Era that she decided to burn down her ex-boyfriend’s corrugated iron sheet bedroom because “he wasted my time”.

She claims that Petrus Uusiku (28) promised her marriage but left her – nine months later, his new girlfriend was pregnant.

The arson incident took place last week.

“I am very disappointed because I was expecting him to marry me, as he made a promise. He blocked my ways; I would have gotten another man. I taught him a lesson. Men should stop wasting our time,” she lamented.

Uusiku, on the hand, claims that Abraham pushed through with her threats after he told her he was no longer interested in their relationship.

“She started insulting and assaulting my girlfriend, and threatened to burn my bedroom. I was at another cucashop when they were separated by onlookers,” he said.

Abraham was taken home by her father, but she allegedly escaped and went back to the cucashops to continue the fight.

“Around 22h00, she disappeared and went to my homestead, where she burned my shack. I all along thought she was joking. I lost everything in my room, valued at N$7 390,” he stressed.
