WINDHOEK– A 28-year-old woman committed suicide by stabbing herself in the heart. She took a brick to push the knife further into her chest when she realised the knife had not penetrated deep enough.
Hambeleleni Kadjuu who lived with her aunt in Havana informal settlement in Monte Christo area took her own life in a very unsual manner.
According to eyewitnesses, Kadjuu had been feeling nauseous for the past few weeks. She decided to visit a clinic upon which she was told she was pregnant.
According to close sources, she seemed unhappy with the pregnancy and threatened to take her own life.
On Thursday around 06h00, she apparently woke up when she heard her aunt moving out of the shack.
“She thought everyone had gone to work. So she blocked the shack door and stabbed herself with a kitchen knife in the chest. When she realised that the knife did not go deeper, she took a brick and started hitting it deeper. Her aunt’s husband happened to walk out of the their room and he found her hitting herself with a brick,” said a neighbour who refused to be named.
Sources say the man managed to take the brick from her and he pulled out the knife after which Kadjuu collapsed and died instantly.
When a City Police ambulance arrived at the scene, the woman was declared dead.
Police public relations officer Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi yesterday confirmed the tragic incident.
“A post-mortem was conducted and it was established that she had a stab wound in her chest,” Shikwambi said.
No suicide note was found and police investigations continue.
Kadjuu leaves behind no child.
