The Presidential Affairs Minister Frans Kapofi said First Lady Monica Geingos has never formed part of official government-related programmes and engagements of her husband President Hage Geingob, locally and abroad.

He stressed that at no point during all recent and past missions of the head of state did the first lady participate in any official talks attended by Geingob, his ministers and government officials.

She has, however, attended from time to time public functions of the president where her presence was required.
Kapofi was responding to media reports that Geingob’s head of security was excluded from a recent trip to France, Cuba and the United Kingdom, after his alleged fallout with Geingos.

“Also on the contrary, the first lady has never been involved in determining the president’s itinerary, the compilation of his security detail or any related matter of state as reported by some media,” explained Kapofi.

“These functions are not within the domain of the previous or current first lady. They are an exclusive preserve of trained and experienced professionals who are appointed to perform them,” said the presidential affairs minister.

“Any claims to the contrary are mischievous, uncalled for and most regrettable. I entreat the media to focus on the good work that our president and our first lady are doing for this nation as we forge forward together to bring prosperity and inclusivity for all Namibians,” he said on Geingob’s focus on economic diplomacy.
