President Nangolo Mbumba yesterday morning visited the home of Founding President Sam Nujoma, who died late Saturday night.

Speaking to Nujoma’s widow, former first lady Kovambo Nujoma, Mbumba shared words of encouragement, telling her and the family that they are not alone.

“We came to our mother to kneel before her and to tell her that she is not alone. Meme, you are not alone, we will be with you, we will be with the family,” Mbumba said.

He thanked Nujoma’s medical team and those who took care of him before his passing.

“This is one of those moments where we are being tested to prove that we are true soldiers. No matter how many tears we may have, we need to do exactly what we have to do, to honour the most outstanding hero, the man who led us to freedom. We will thus have to meet as leadership in government and decide what needs to be done tomorrow and the days to come,” Mbumba said.

The head of state also commended Nujoma’s bravery in turning ordinary Namibians, workers and village farmers into brilliant soldiers during the liberation struggle.

“This is a man without whom you would still be under colonialism. He is the one who sent us, as kids, to schools. He never forgot to keep in touch with us and encouraged us to come back to the struggle. For those who did so, history will record,” Mbumba said. -Nampa
