WINDHOEK President Hifikepunye Pohamba on Friday sent his best wishes to Dr Nujoma, on the occasion of his birthday, on May 12. Following is the full text of his message: “It is with great pleasure that we join you and your family in celebrating the special occasion of your 78th birthday anniversary. On behalf of all staff members of my office, my family and indeed my own behalf, I wish to extend to you Comrade Nujoma, our sincere congratulations. “For many years, you have dedicated your life to serve the people of Namibia. You provided leadership as Namibia took her first steps as a sovereign and democratic nation. Today, Namibia has flourished and taken her proud place among nations. We salute your commitment and zeal in the promotion of Pan-Africanism and the economic emancipation of our continent. “We wish you strength and personal good health as you celebrate this special day. “May the Almighty grant you many happy returns.” Meanwhile, the University of Namibia on Saturday celebrated the birthday of the Chancellor of the institution. Speaking at the occasion, SRC President, Fillemon ‘Wise’ Immanuel, thanked Dr Nujoma for his “free services and sacrifices and steadfast devotion to duty that have brought about academic freedom” enjoyed today. Addressing a crowd of students, Nujoma’s son, Sackey Nujoma, said that under the guidance of his father, the university has “achieved remarkable successes in its endeavours to produce academics of quality and transform itself to become one of the institutions of excellence”. “Today, UNAM stands tall among the highly-rated universities in the world,” declared Nujoma Jr.
