RUNDU – Kavango West regional commander Julia Sakuwa-Neo has beseeched newly-promoted Namibian Police officers to exhibit a high level of professionalism, and to dedicate their time to serve and protect the community amidst increasing crime disturbing the peace.

She was speaking at the police’s promotional parade held on Wednesday at Nkurenkuru, where over 200 members were promoted with effect from 1 December 2023. Amongst the promoted members, 159 are male and 72 females.

“It is worth noting that this is the first time in the history of the Kavango West region to have members promoted in such big numbers. Promotions come with more responsibilities, hard work, sacrifice, accountability and honesty. It is not just a mere decoration on your shoulders,’’ the regional commander reminded the officers.

There were four officers promoted to inspector rank, 28 warrant officer class one, 27 warrant officer class two, 50 sergeant class one, and 119 sergeant class two.

“This is phase one. There will still be phase two for the promotion of inspectors upwards,” Sakuwa-Neo said.

In the Kavango East region, a similar event took place on Wednesday, where 147 officers were promoted to different ranks. 81 constables were promoted to sergeant class two, and 10 constables were promoted to sergeant class one. About 40 sergeant class two members were promoted to sergeant class one, and three sergeant class two officers were promoted to warrant officer class two, while 13 sergeant class one officers were promoted to warrant officer class two.
