Public supports Starlink Licence Application

Public supports Starlink Licence Application

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) said it has received strong public support for the Starlink telecommunications licence application.

Mufaro Nesongano, Executive for Communication and Consumer Relations at CRAN, said although the application is still under consideration, the majority of the submissions received are in favour of the telecommunications company.

He said that by Friday, 12 December 2025, CRAN had received 1 180 written submissions from the public.

“The feedback shows a wide range of views. Most of the submissions support the application,” he said.

Out of the 1 180 submissions, 1 164 were in support of the Starlink application. Only 16 submissions were against it. Nesongano said both the supportive and opposing submissions included important comments. The applicant must formally address these comments as part of CRAN’s evaluation process.

CRAN will continue to review all submissions before making a final decision on the licence application.

He added that these comments collectively illustrate the public’s active engagement and diverse perspectives on the potential implications of Starlink’s entry into Namibia’s telecommunications sector.

“CRAN is currently in the process of consolidating all received comments. Once completed, the Authority will share the compiled feedback with Starlink, providing an opportunity for the company to respond directly to the public concerns and viewpoints within a period of 14 days after receiving the comments,” he said.

Lastly, “CRAN aims to announce its decision regarding the licence application by the end of the first quarter (Q1) of  2026, ensuring thorough review and public engagement throughout the process,” he concluded.
