A 17-year-old boy was arrested last week for allegedly raping a grade 2 learner in the Okatope area of Oshikoto region. It is alleged the victim and suspect were sleeping in the same room when the suspect ordered the victim to undress and had sexual intercourse with her without consent.

“The victim is seven years old. The two are staying in the same house, however, not related,” the police said in a crime report. In another rape case, police at Rundu arrested an adult male for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl on Friday evening just before midnight.

At Nkurenkuru in Kavango West, a 21-year-old suspect reportedly raped a 17-year-old girl after forcing himself on her. The suspect was arrested and was due to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday. At Kambowo village in Rundu on Saturday between 20h00 and 21h00, a 30-year-old woman was stabbed with a knife in the face. A male suspect who fled the scene reportedly inflicted the injuries. In an unrelated incident, a man was arrested on Saturday after he went on a shooting spree at Omhokolo village at the Omulonga constituency of Ohangwena.

The weekend’s crime report indicated the suspect was shooting randomly in public and was found in possession of arms and ammunition without a licence. He allegedly discharged the firearm in public multiple times. “The police further searched the suspect’s room and found more ammunition,” the police said. The 39-year-old suspect was due to appear in court yesterday. Still in the Ohangwena region, a 26-year-old man reportedly set his grandmother’s room alight while she was inside sleeping. The incident reportedly occurred after an argument between the two. “The room and its content burnt completely.

The fire allegedly spread and burned the mahangu field. The victim (69) escaped with minor injuries. The nature of the properties and value thereof is not yet determined,” reads the police report. The suspect was arrested and police investigations continue.
