To provide sanitary pads to primary school girls in rural areas, along with comprehensive education, Sister Namibia is hosting a SisterPad Quiz Night tomorrow night at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC).
Sister Namibia director Vida de Voss says SisterPad is a Sister Namibia’s project to tackle the problem of schoolgirls who miss an average of three school days a month, because they cannot afford menstrual pads. The project assists by providing free re-usable pads.
She says the quiz is set to make sure that SisterPad can continue doing its good work. “By participating in this quiz night you will not only enrich your knowledge, have loads of fun with friends and family, but also contribute to a great cause,” says de Voss.
SisterPad aims to improve girls’ welfare and protect their dignity by focusing on effecting increased school attendance and subsequent performance at school, contributing towards the completion of their primary and high school education.
“Sister Namibia believes every girl deserves education, safety, and dignity. No girl should have to stay home from school, because she cannot afford pads. We believe that SisterPad offer girls basic dignity and opportunity, allowing them to become an agent of change in her own life by eliminating the barriers to attending school.
In this way girls are empowered and have the ability to excel and complete their education,” de Voss notes. So far, the SisterPad project in Namibia has reached 760 girls and aims to keep on empowering young women and facilitating their access to education.
The entrance fee for the SisterPad Quiz Night at FNCC is N$30 per person.
